I think that feather crowns are probably something that a lot of people have never seen, or
heard of. These have been around longer than I have, and I have been around 70 yrs +. These
crowns were in an old trunk that my dad inherited from his mother. The crowns were from
ancestors pillows, I was always told that when there was a crown in a pillow after someone
passed away that they had gone to heaven.
I can remember seeing them when I was real small, I always liked to look in the old trunk when
I was a kid. I don't know why because there was not that much in it for a kid to see, mostly old papers. Some of them are 150 years old or older. Any way here are some
pictures of the crowns, and a couple old hair pins that have always been with them.
Pictures are not too good, might be the photographer.
Merry Yule!

That is so neat, Vera. I had never heard of that. Do you know whose pillow they came from? You are so lucky to have all that old stuff from your family.
I just know they from my Dads family. They must have been pretty old, because my Dad didn't know whose pillows they came from. Dad was born 1901
Hi Vera, I asked John about that and he said he remembers his mom saying that when someone died on a feather tick bed or pillow that a hard ball formed in them and they were not good to sleep on anymore and had to be thrown away. Of course I didn't know anything about them. That is very interesting.
There is a book by Bobbie Ann Mason called Feather Crowns where she mentions this. I had never seen a real one so your picture is the closest I've come...thanks for sharing.
Be Blessed!♥
I have never heard of a feather crown. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.
Vera-you know I have never heard of these. Wow-how neat that you have them. I'm going to ask Pap and Granny if they've ever heard of feather crowns.
Yes , I found one in my grandmothers feathertick and was not sure what it was , a great experience happened and I now have my grandmothers heavenly crown.
My grandfather recently shared a story with me about the feather crowns found in his grandfathers feather pillow. I found the story to be beautiful and fascinating. Decided to google the topic and see what I could learn about feather crowns. I was thrilled to find your blog with pictures since I was having a difficult time visualizing what they would look like. Thanks for posting the pictures.
