OLD PICTURES

I have a couple of old pictures I wanted to show, mostly because of where they came from. This one came out of the trash. It has a pretty wood frame with a gold trim. My husband worked for the city trash department about 40 or more years ago and one night he brought this home. It has hung in my kitchen or dining room all these years just because I like it, and who knows may be worth a few dollars.

This one came from a yard sale 10 or 12 years ago. I bought it for $15.00 just because I liked it. The Lady told me that this picture hung on the walls of the Kanawha County Poor Farm in Dunbar WV. Her mother had worked there when the Poor Farm closed. From what I could find out the Poor Farm closed sometime in the 30"s, when the government started social security. The lady had probably 8 or 10 more pictures ,but I didn't have any more money so I just got the one.

Feather Crowns

I think that feather crowns are probably something that a lot of people have never seen, or
heard of. These have been around longer than I have, and I have been around 70 yrs +. These
crowns were in an old trunk that my dad inherited from his mother. The crowns were from
ancestors pillows, I was always told that when there was a crown in a pillow after someone
passed away that they had gone to heaven.

I can remember seeing them when I was real small, I always liked to look in the old trunk when
I was a kid. I don't know why because there was not that much in it for a kid to see, mostly old papers. Some of them are 150 years old or older. Any way here are some
pictures of the crowns, and a couple old hair pins that have always been with them.

Pictures are not too good, might be the photographer.

Crochet

I don't do much anymore, so I just have memories to write about.
I can remember watching my mom crochet for what seemed like hours at a time. That is how I learned, I think I was probably about eleven years old. I can also remember my Moms friend teaching her to crochet. I have three daughters and I taught all three of them to crochet, but they can't crochet with thread, only yarn. Myself, I don't like to crochet with yarn. I can't do much at all now because I have a shaky hand and my fingers are kind of stiff.

Lots of people don't use doilies any more, but I still like them. I can remember when I was a young woman, (lots of years ago) we starched the doilies and pinned them on a cardboard and let them dry, they would be real stiff. Now I just spray on a little starch and iron over them, I don't like them stiff anymore. Just wanted to show a few that I made. I'm new at this blog thing, so my things don't show up as I think they will. Maybe I can learn as I go along.
Well, here are a few pictures. (I love pictures)
This one is on the coffee table.
This one is on the sofa table. (as if you really care)

Rooster Combs and ?

The flowers will soon be gone, so I took a few pictures, I wish I had taken them sooner while they were all still pretty. These Rooster Combs are in my daughter Angies yard.

This is my daughter Vondas back yard. I dont know what this plant is , but I really like it. Yes the pump really works, it is in a well that runs over most of the time. She has already turned the barrell upside down for the winter.

I wish I had gotten pictures while everything was still pretty.

Pumpkin Rolls

The first thing you are going to find about me is that I have never written anything, and I don't really have anything to write about, and if I did I wouldn,t know how to write it, so maybe this will give you something to laugh about and that will be O K too , because we all need a good laugh now and then

About the only thing I can think of right now is pumpkin rolls. I guess it is the time for making them because my daughter called and said hers were not turning out right this year, they were getting crunchy around the edges, I told her maybe oven too hot ,or too much sugar but she said everything was the same as last year and that wasn't the problem, so much for that.

My brother called from Florida and wanted to know what was wrong with his pumpkin rolls, they were rubbery. I ask him if he forgot the eggs and he said no, but he did say he used a different kind of flour, so that may have been the problem. He is going to try some more tomorrow (with a different flour) I hope he has better luck with them. I guess they think I should know everything about pumpkin rolls because I taught them how to make them, but I don't think I was of much help.

They have about scared me out on trying any this year, or I might try a few just to show them up. I usually make a hundred or more but I am not able to do that this year, so I may just write about them instead. Well I decided to make one for the Pastor appreciation dinner, so here it is.

Still in the pan.

Here it is filled and rolled up.

Here it is ready to go to Pastor appreciation dinner.
